Silent Sunday...

Everything seems so silent around here today. It has been a very quiet day with hardly anyone around. The shop was pretty quiet today and I only had two reading requests. Even the grocers seemed emptier than usual.

I went by Michael's Crafts and picked up a bunch of paints for a new project I'm working on. I tried getting back to work on them the other night, only to discover that the paints I had were very old and dried out. I got a lot of pretty colors and can't wait to see what I can make out of them.

It is pretty dark outside right now. I heard some thunder rumbling by a little bit ago. I think we are in for a few storms tonight. According to the last forecast I saw, we may have storms every day. My poor yard may never get mowed at this rate and my garden? Poor, poor garden... it is so overgrown with grass that I don't know how anything else is growing. I haven't been out there in a few days, so I have to go tomorrow and see if there is anything to be picked. Last time I was in the garden, there were a few jalapenos almost ready to pluck. I'm sure with all this rain, they are ready by now.

I'm still trying to make up my mind about the neighbor/move situation. Yesterday I received a letter in the mail from work, indicating that my pay grade has been increased and I'm now making about $150 more. That does not include whatever pay increase the state deigns to give us this year. My salary is pretty good and with gas prices the way they are, I don't know if moving farther out is going to help things. Trying to find a new job and start over is seeming very overwhelming. December marks 10 years at my company, I'll start getting longevity checks and as my mum says, if I can just hang on for another 20 years, I'll be able to retire, at 59. So, do you see my dilemma? So... c.o.n.f.u.s.i.n.g!

Anyway, I'm off to put away the stuff I bought today and see if any laundry needs to be done. I am very sleepy and really could do with a nap. Oh, and I've got to make some business decisions too, I need to figure out setting up an online shop and how to accept payments, etc. :-) Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Oops... I almost forgot the daily photo. Today's photo is from the beach and is of a brown pelican I saw while on a dolphin tour.

slow saturday...

It's a slow day today. I was supposed to spend the day working in the yard, but couldn't get out of bed this morning. We had some big storms yesterday with lots of rain and the yard is still very wet. I've not done much today except play on the computer. I've gone and joined the myspace world and have been getting familiar with it and playing with it.

I spent several hours yesterday clearing out magazines. I have hundreds of magazines that I just haven't been able to get rid of. I have lots of Martha Stewart's, Country Living, Country Living Gardener, and Victoria magazines. It is very hard for me to through them out. They are so pretty and I like looking back through them from time to time. So, what I've been doing is going through and cutting out things that I want to save, pretty pictures, decorating ideas, recipes, anything that catches my eye; then I dump the rest of the magazine for recycle. I just don't know what else to do with them. I don't have room to keep them and they are taking up valuable and needed bookshelf space. I have moved several batches of them into plastic tubs, but then the are just there and I forget about them, etc. Cutting them up seemed like the best solution. :-(

Oh, I made up a recipe last night that turned out to be pretty good. I will tweak it a bit the next time I make it, but I really enjoyed it. I took pictures as I made it and will post the recipe and pictures later.

I'm going to try to be productive today, I'm doing readings tomorrow and will not have much time tomorrow for household stuff.

More later... maybe ;-)

Oh, here is another photo from the beach trip, while fishing on the pier, several schools of stingrays came through. It was so magical to watch these beautiful creatures glide through the water...

Happy 4th!

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Today is cleaning day for me, I'm working on rearranging my bedroom and need to get it all cleaned up. I also want to get two new altars started. I'm in need of a blessings altar and I really want to set up a love altar.

I need a run to the craft store for paints and fabric, but that may have to wait until Sunday, I'm doing tarot readings at my friends shop that day and will have to go out anyway.

Tomorrow morning is yard day with my mum. Last Saturday we worked in the front yard and got it looking pretty good. I cut back some bushes and we scrubbed down the front porch. Tomorrow we are going to finish the side and then weed the garden.

I've picked three squash from the garden and I'm planning to experiment with an idea I have for a squash and chicken casserole. If it goes well, I'll post it here.

I'm getting distracted from my focus on my bedroom by Psychic Kids on A&E. It is very interesting.

Well, I need to get back to work.

Here's another photo from the beach trip.

long story made short

The quickest way I can describe all that went wrong on our vacation is to make a list. I'm not getting into details... just the basic descriptions...

1 - car broke down and took three days to get fixed putting me behind on my getting ready for my trip
2 - due to car being repaired, couldn't get it inspected and had to take it over 500 miles across the state with expired inspection
3 - first two days at rental house at beach, septic backed up - no toilets, showers, dishwasher or sink... (in small house with 9 people, 1 with diabetes, 3 with ibs, and 2 young children)
4 - first day the 7 yr old gets stung by jellyfish
5 - fourth day my cousins husband, children and my sil were in a wreck (rear-ended with them almost at a stop and the person who hit them going about 50 miles an hour)
6 - spent 4 1/2 hours in emergency room with cousin and sil
7 - spent next day and half dealing with consequences from wreck
8 - last day before leaving, septic repair people came back and spent all day working on septic system so we couldn't use the pool
9 - on day coming home, find out after leaving that we are going an hour + out of our way home in order to get "the best barbecue in the state" to bring home... get to the restaurant and it is CLOSED
10 - finally get home only to discover that my neighbor had cut down my rose bush and several other tree limbs and trees all along the property line - but they had come into my side by about a foot and a half...

So, there is the gist of my miserable life. I'm very close to deciding to move. I just don't think I can continue to put up with the neighbors harassment. I did some digging and it turns out her dad owns the house, so there is no way she will move.

I'm so depressed about it that I can barely function. I'm okay when I'm not at home, but when I am, I just don't care. I have spent hours crying and thinking about what to do and I cannot figure out how to make this decision. I can't really do a reading on myself because I am too biased. I have spent several hours searching online for a job in the area that I need in order to buy the house I want. I haven't found anything yet, but I'm not sure that I'm looking the right way.

Well, thanks for reading/listening...

retro... let's get back to normal...

Mercury retrograde sucks.

I have had some very bad luck over the two weeks and am anxiously waiting for mercury retrograde to end so that things can get back to normal. Several issues have come up which I'm not going to go into here but this is a brief rundown of the other things that have happened lately:
there was the day a few weeks ago, where I ate my friends lunch (that falafel really looked and tasted like steak) and had to buy two lunches that day
on Monday, I fell going down my front steps to take out the trash. Nothing is broken, but bruises and pain abounds.
yesterday my car would not start and after a rousing game of who is going to tell me the truth just to get it towed, come to find out (at 5:30pm) that the battery and alternator are dead and it will cost approx $588 to fix it. But it can't be fixed until Thursday. So, I'm car less for a few days (very bad timing by the way!) I guess it is a good thing that the economic stimulus check arrived on Monday.
I'm not getting on with my co-workers right now. Two of them got into a religious debate and one of them, that I thought was pretty open minded and kind, actually sat there and insulted me for two hours to my face about my religious beliefs. (Half of which she was wrong about.)

I am so ready for a vacation! We leave early on Saturday morning and are stopping through a small town that my mum and uncle grew up in to visit a friend of the family that is 102. The town is on the way to the beach (sort of) and this may be our last time to see her. I'm looking forward to taking pictures and seeing the town that I used to spend so much time in. I love small towns and would have settled there, but the house I wanted I couldn't buy.

Anyway, then we hit the beach and will be coming back the following Saturday. The weather forecast for the week looks to be perfect! Sun, sand, ocean, pool, fishing, I can't wait! And the best thing about it? No WORK!!!!

Well, I'd better get back to work. I have lots of lists to make to decide what I'm taking with me and also decide what books to get to take. I plan to take lots of pictures and hopefully may even be able to blog from the beach. If not, I'll share when I get back!

thinking...

I've been doing a lot of thinking today. I have renewed my search for work closer to my "dream home" and have spent the last several hours looking online for any type of job prospects within a 30 minute radius. I think that I'm looking at this the wrong way. I have been looking for something in my current field, but part of the reason that I want to move, is because I don't like the work that I do any longer. I guess I just need to find anything. I told myself at first that I had to find a job that would pay at least what I make now. But if I move there, my expenditures will be lower than what I spend living in the city, except my mortgage will increase. I still think that the outflow of money would be less just to live.

I've also been thinking about what kind of things I could do that would help bring in money. I love gardening and could grow a lot of my vegetables, herbs and live off of those and maybe sell some of my herbs. My friend that owns the shop that I sell my wreaths at would probably buy the herbs for her store. There are so many other things that I could do to make money, creative things.

I guess I just have to figure out how to get started. I don't have much money saved up right now. It has been a bad last few months - emotionally, mentally and fiscally. I want to make an offer on the house. I know I can get the loan with my current income. But with gas prices the way they are, I can't afford to drive 1 1/2 hours to and from work five days a week. I already spoke with my boss and the only leeway she can give me is to work the full 8 hours straight, which would just let me leave an hour earlier than usual. I've also been out so much over the last few months, that I'm running out of sick leave/vacation days. I'm actually in the hole on sick leave but am working that out.

It seems so overwhelming, trying to figure out how to make it happen. I know once I'm there, everything will be fine. It's the getting there that is giving me fits.

I just have to continue to believe that I can make it happen and that it will happen.

Why... oh why...

...is it so FREAKING HOT?!?!?

I swear I can barely move it is so hot. I went out this morning around 6 and it was already almost 80 degrees. I hope this is not a sign of what the summer is going to be like. If it is, I'll be spending a lot of time inside. :-)

This time next Saturday I'll be arriving in the Outer Banks for a weeks vacation. I am so excited about it! A week away from work and 8 days at the ocean. I'll be on the beach for both the full moon and the summer solstice. I'm trying to get a list together of the things I will need for "ritual" while I'm there. This is a family vacation and my family are all southern baptists so any ritual will have to be disguised or hidden quietly. Oh well, I'll get some time alone on the sand and that should be good. The weather forecast for the week we are there looks perfect. Oh, I can't wait!

Fade Into You - Mazzy Star

loving this song right now...

music

I have become an iTunes addict. I bought about 60 songs on there today and have been listening to them all day. A lot of the songs are from the 80's. Let's see, I got some Cure, Elvis Costello, Bangles, lots of Adam & the Ants, the Skeleton Key Soundtrack, some Clash, Rancid, Missing Persons, Big Country and Falco. I also got a few Justin Timberlake, Lifehouse... oh and some Sex Pistols.

Oh crap... I just realized I have misplaced my iPod. I hope it is on my desk at work. Damn Mercury Retrograde!

I hate photoshop... or... why i'm going insane...

I have spent the better part of the past 7 or 8 days trying to figure out one thing in photoshop. I have googled for tips and found several, but they are all written for a person who has used photoshop for a while. I am very new to the photoshop fun and am really not liking it.

All I want to do is merge two images, so that one shows on top of another. I don't know if I'm stupid, but I can't get it to work. No matter what I do, it comes out wrong or it just doesn't work.

I HATE PHOTOSHOP!!!

Now back to our regular program...

Farmer wants a What?

I'm not a fan of the reality show genre. I think they are actually not very realistic so I never watch them. However... last week I came across this show. I love this show! I think the guy is very sweet and kinda cute and I've already picked which girl I think he should choose. My only question is ... why didn't I hear about it before it went on the air? I might would have auditioned for this one. :-)

bloom day #5 and other stuff

Above is my beautiful new plant that I found at the nursery of the local farmer's market. It is a big beautiful fuchsia. I'm really hopeful that I will be able to keep it alive.

Below is a closeup of some of the blooms.

I haven't not intended for this to become solely a gardening blog, but it seems that lately that is all I've posted about. I do have other things going on and sometimes I am just not sure about writing about them here.

I have decided to change the name of my home business. I have been calling it SpiritWitch Designs for a while, but just haven't felt comfortable with that name. It just doesn't seem to fit. So, I've finally found one that I like. I'm currently working on getting my logo for it designed. I have an image in mind and just have to figure out how to make it work. I'm not very good with Photoshop and that is the software I'm using to put it together. If anyone knows how to merge two photos together in photoshop, I could sure use some tips.

I've been going to acupuncture once a week and I'm also seeing a counselor and the combination seems to be helping me get out of my depression. I've been feeling much better lately and even made it through an entire week of work last week. Yay me! Oh and the best part... 2 and 1/2 weeks and NO HEADACHE/MIGRAINE!!!!

One other thing that has been helping me is this blog. It seems that every time I check in on her blog, the post that I find is something that seems written just for me. mccabe is coolest chic and such an inspiration.

So, I should get back to work, I feel that I have rambled on enough for now.
Take care

bloom day #4

Thank you for the birthday wishes. It was a better day than I expected. I had a good day at work (with cake!) and a wonderful dinner with family. I've spent a lot of time outside this weekend and have the sunburn to prove it. Yesterday I spent several hours at the lake yesterday and was very sad to have left my camera at the house. We went out on the boat and rode past a weather station on the lake where an osprey family has taken up residence and had babies. It was so cool to watch them looking after the baby birds.

I had today off work and spent several hours weeding the veggies. Didn't get very far, but did make some progress. I hope to work on it again tomorrow night, but my house is needing attention (laundry, floor sweeping, dusting, etc.) and I feel that might get the upper hand on the weeding! :-)

Oh, I got a beautiful Fuchsia plant this weekend. I'll take pictures and post them tomorrow or the next day. :-)

I'm off to get my gym bag packed. I'm headed back into my swim routine tomorrow and need to try to get a good night's sleep.

Take care,

you say it's your birthday...

...it's my birthday too....

Who sings that song? I can't remember... I remember it from Sixteen Candles. :-)

Yep, today is my birthday. I'm not very excited about it. I have told my family that this is the last one that I will acknowledge. :-)

Today I turn 39. My life is nothing like I thought it would be at this age. But it isn't as bad as it could be. I'm starting to feel better about things and really working on my self esteem.

So, how am I spending my birthday? Well, I have a work meeting until 3 then I go for acupuncture (which I just LOVE) and then dinner this evening with mum, brother and sister-in-law. Saturday mum and I are making strawberry jam and syrup and Sunday I'm going to the lake with dad and step-mum. We are off from work on Monday so I will get to have at least one day to rest. :-)

Well, I have a few more things to do before I go to bed, if I go to bed. I made two more wreaths this week and I need to tag them so I can take them by the shop tomorrow.

Tuesday, May 06, 2008

It's been awhile...

...since i posted. Mostly because the big gaping black hole opened up and sucked me back in. I have finally found a way to get help without having to be heavily medicated (which makes me feel even worse than I already do) and am starting to feel better. I have done very very little in the last several weeks. The only thing I have done with any consistency is read. I love to read and have probably been through 10 - 15 books in the past three weeks.

I wanted to post to say that I am still around, I have been doing the occasional blog reading and have really enjoyed a lot of it. I've missed a LOT of work, and what hurts the most is that I missed working at the shop last Sunday doing tarot readings. I was so out of it and so confused and in pain that I didn't think it wise to try to give any spiritual counseling to anyone. I feel like I let my friend down. I'm sure she doesn't see it that way, but I do, and I guess that is part of the problem.

But, I'm working on it. I feel better today than I have in weeks and I didn't have the usual argument in my head about whether or not I was going to work today. I just got up, got ready, went to vote and came in to work. That is progress. So hopefully, more posts will be forthcoming, with lots of pretty pictures.

bloom day...

I've decided to post, at least once a week about my plants/garden/whatever I have blooming around me. I really love plants and working in the garden but i don't feel that I talk about it enough or do it enough. Hopefully this will inspire me to do more. :-)

Today's bloom day photo is crocus. These beautiful purple flowers are blooming in my side yard. Unfortunately they aren't where I can see them on a regular basis. I have to go outside or stand at the breakfast room window on my toes in order to see them. Having the picture helps me to enjoy them more.

I've been giving some thought to having some of my pictures framed. I am by no means a great photographer, but occasionally I feel like I hit on a really good one.

Sunday was pretty slow. I didn't get to do any readings, but I did get to hang out with my friend. I also found a new tarot deck. It is the Llewellyn Tarot. I was a little turned off by the name because I'm not a big fan of Llewellyn Publishers, but when I looked at the pictures, they are just beautiful! It is based on the Welsh legends and it resonates with me, probably because of my welsh heritage. :-) I can't wait to start using them. I may end up reading with those instead of the Robin Wood that I currently use. For all my spell work, I use the Druid Tarot. I like the images in that one too.

Time for me to go. The broom is in the shop waiting to be picked up. I need to mow, but probably will wait until tomorrow (I bought a new mower this weekend and need to learn how to use it!) and I have some crafty stuff I am itching to get to. Only an hour left of work and then I'm free for a few more hours. :-)

Too excited...

I must be too excited to sleep. This is the third night this week that I have been up very late. To me, 11pm is very late. I still have about an hours worth of stuff to do before I can go to bed. I'm currently cutting out tags to put on my wreaths. Yes, I've made more.

I have been very productive creatively this week. I made seven wreaths to take to the shop tomorrow and I also did some dabbling in clay. I really like what I made with the clay and I'll post a photo of it later. It isn't quite finished.

I have also finished making some business cards. I just have to separate them. I think I mentioned in an earlier post that I'm going to be doing tarot card readings professionally. Tomorrow is my "first day" so to speak. That is probably what is causing all this nervous/excited energy I'm filled with right now. I'm hoping once I do my first reading that I'll calm down some.

We had a beautiful day here today. The temperature went up to 74 degrees. I planted some pansies in my window box and weeded just a little. My lawn desperately needs to be mowed, but my mower is broken. I went to Home Depot to purchase a new mower but they were out of stock in the model I want. I called one of the other ones in town and found one that has it in stock and am going to get it tomorrow. I have Monday off for the holiday and I plan to mow then.

Still a lot to be done, so I'm off for now.

Happy Spring to everyone! I can't believe it is here already. I'm still wishing for another burst of winter (I just want a really good snowfall to wipe out all the germs and bugs) but I'm also ready for spring. I am looking forward to working in the garden but I haven't even begun to think about what to plant. Any suggestions?

Have a great day!

...phew...

So... tired...

4:15 comes awfully early in the morning. I started back swimming this week. I have been every day except Tuesday. I can't believe how much I missed it.

I've been very busy this week, hence the lack of posting. I've been working so much that when I get home I just do not have the energy to even look at a computer. That has been good for other things, like knitting.

I finished a red fun fur scarf for a co-worker. I'll get it to her today sometime. I haven't knit much else. I've also spent time on my spring cleaning. I am planning on doing a very thorough cleaning of my house, hoping to get rid of a lot of extraneous stuff. I've been working on plans for my business, designing the business cards and brochures and also coming up with name options. I've also got about a billion ideas just running through my head of things I want to make. I'm going to sit down and make a list later today.

This weekend I'm going to hang pictures and get some things done at the house. I'm getting a new fence, I already have a chain link, but I'm getting a privacy fence to protect me from the neighbors. The guy that is going to put it in is coming by this weekend to measure and give me an estimate. I'm also hoping to get more done on my secret project. :-)

Gotta get back to work...
more later...

Sunday, February 24, 2008

Sometimes I wish I were a tree. A big, old oak or maple, that stands through time and weather. Watching how the world grows and changes through time.

It is cold here today. Yesterday was in the 60's and I thought today was to be just as warm. It is currently in the low 40's. I feel the cold all the way into my bones. I usually enjoy the cold, but today, I'd rather have warmth. It has also started to rain. We desperately need the rain, so I can't complain about that.

Today I have spent the day working on a new super secret project. It is something I have been interested in for a while, but didn't think I could do. I have been researching and realized that it might not be as hard as I thought and decided to go for it. I'm starting off small to see if it is really something I would like to pursue. It has the opportunity to become something big, something that could supplement my income and maybe work towards becoming a full time thing. I'm very excited about it. I promise to reveal details once I've finished the first couple of runs at it.

Another new thing is that I'm going to start doing tarot readings professionally. My friend that has a shop has given me the opportunity to read there once or maybe twice a month. I'm quite looking forward to it. Ever since last Halloween when I read for my co-workers I've been debating of whether or not to do it. I finally decided to just go for it. I that that is going to become my new motto. :-)

Tonight is dinner with my dad and stepmum, sil and brother. My sil turns 30 tomorrow. We had our celebration dinner with my mum on Friday. Tyler Florence's Horseradish and Garlic Prime Rib, Irish Potato Casserole, Green bean casserole, Caesar salad and yeast rolls. It was divine! We had the roast at Christmas and we all fell in love with it. There is a wild mushroom sauce thing with that recipe, but we didn't use it. We love Paula Deen's Brandied Steakside Mushrooms. That woman is just fabulous!
Oh, back to dinner tonight. We are going to Bravo! Italiana Cuisine. I like their food okay, but it would not have been my first choice.

I'm having a craving for cupcakes. I bought cake mix today, triple chocolate, and cream cheese icing. I might make them tomorrow night after work. If not then, it will be next weekend. This week is already set up to be a doozie. At some point I plan on making a batch of cupcakes from scratch. But right now I just want to have cupcakes! We really have become an instant gratification world, haven't we? :-)

Last night I finished reading The Other Boleyn Girl. It was excellent. I can't wait to see the movie. :-)

Well, I'd best be off, I need to try and warm up before changing for dinner.

Has anyone seen my heart?

No, I don't think this is it. I found this in the snow on valentine's afternoon. Is it irony, coincidence, a sign... I don't know. Sometimes I feel like my heart is encased in ice and that is why I haven't found anyone for me yet. I like to think it is a sign. A sign of love to come? Maybe...

Did anyone see the eclipse last night? It was beautiful!

It is getting closer to the spring equinox. Signs of spring are everywhere...

The weather people are calling for sleet and freezing rain tonight and tomorrow. I wouldn't mind a day of bad weather so I can stay home and finish my book. I'm reading Phillipa Gregory's The Other Boleyn Girl and I absolutely love it! I can't wait for the movie. I will probably go to see it when it comes out.

Playing with Photoshop

I've spent some time in the last month playing around with Photoshop. I have no idea what I'm doing and can't seem to find a good book that would teach me how to use it properly. Above is the photo I took that I used as my base photo. It is just an old barn on the side of the road that leads to my dad's place at the lake. I love it though. Sitting there looking at it, I can see from the edge of my vision the things that have happened here and it has been used. Such character they have.

Anyway, with this photo I played with the charcol tool: (It looks kind of otherworldly...)

I really like the way this one looks. On the next one I used the graphite pencil tool. I really love this one.

The last tweak I did to this photo was with the glowing edges tool. It looks kinda funky to me, but I like it.

I really want to find a book to give me some direction. If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them. Also, I'd really love some feedback about what you think about the photos.

Blessings,
~*~

Happy...day...

We had snow last night. Yes, I said it, SNOW! We accumulated about 2 to 2.5 inches. I went to take the beast out around 9 pm and it was really coming down. It has already started to melt, boo hoo. I really still want a storm that will basically freeze the city. I would like to experience that at least once! :-)

I've been so busy and wanting to post here but just haven't been able to find the time. I went shopping on Saturday with Mum, the first time in a long time. We had fun and I got a few things that were kind of neat. One is a "Love Stinks" valentine voodoo doll. He is so cute! Yeah, V-day is not really my favorite time of year. Tonight I'm having dinner with mum and two of her single friends. Both of her friends need me to help them with their computers so I figured I'd be better off to get it over with tonight. It isn't like I have anything else to do.

I'm also starting to get the crud. That is what we grew up calling it. When you have a bad cough or congestion and just generally feel like death warmed over. I started noticing a cough on Sunday and each day it has gotten progressively worse. Today I can feel it really bad in my throat and chest and my nose is constantly stopped up. Ugh!

I have been knitting. I made a fun fur scarf for my friends eldest daughter who turned 10 at the end of January.

I'm also continuing work on the never-ending afghan. I'll try to get a picture of the progress up soon.

Well, I'd best get back to work. Hopefully, I can get back to regular posting now.

The whirlwind continues...

Whew... I'm tired! It has been an unbelievably busy week. Work has been very crazy busy and I've been helping a friend do some painting which is taking a lot of time. I've missed writing here and reading the blogs. I've been so busy I haven't been able to really check the blogs out to see what is happening with everyone else.

It is hot here today. I'm hanging out inside, working on a spreadsheet and watching movies and basketball games. I've also got some laundry going. I'm supposed to go paint tonight and I spent over 6 hours yesterday painting. It's been kind of fun and is making me want to paint my house. I'll have to do some work to it before I can paint. Stuff like fixing the cracking ceilings and the walls. I want to restore, not renovate.

Anyway, on the knitting front I've been working on a basic fun fur scarf in pink for a birthday gift for a 10 year old. I just need to bind off and work in the ends and I'll be able to mail it to her. It's late, but I hope she'll like it and be able to think of me when she wears it. :-)

Work has been a little better this week. Had a talk with the teammates and explained how I felt. It was going better until late Thursday, when the same old stuff started happening again. Friday I was out with a migraine so I'll see what it is like on Monday.

I really don't have much else to talk about right now. Time to get caught up on the blog reading. :-)

I smell snow...

Yes, it is snowing! It has been since about noon. It has taken a long time for it to stick, but now it is and the world is turning white. I love snow. I love how it makes everything seem clean, somehow fresher than before. Standing on my deck, with the snow falling around me I begin to believe that my dreams can become reality.

I had thought that taking time from work would give me a chance to do some things around the house, to get myself together. That hasn't happened. I have basically done nothing but rest and think. I have spent so much time thinking. I have thought about how I feel about my job. I have thought about how I feel about my home. I have thought about what I have lost in this life and what I may still have to gain. I have also thought about what I want my life to be. How I want to live, where I want to live, what I want to do for employment. There is so much I want to change.

I have realized that part of my breakdown this week came from my fear of change, my fear of success. I've realized that there have been times when I knew what I wanted and I focused on them and they became reality. When I was 18, I wanted a house of my own, with a big yard, a cat and a dog. I drew a picture of what I wanted, it had the style of house I wanted, the dog in the yard, the cat in the window, and a garden in the backyard. 5 years later I remembered that drawing, looked around at my surroundings and realized I was there. I had everything I had drawn. I let the doubt creep in that I could keep it going, that maybe it wasn't right and I lost it.

I have focused that kind of energy on things that aren't good for me too and I'm still paying for that. I didn't do a drawing for it, but I put enough visualization into it that I got almost what I wanted or rather I got what I thought I wanted. It turned out that what I thought I wanted, wasn't what I wanted at all. I'm still trying to end that relationship.

I've known for a long time that I want to live in the country. I want to live where it is quiet and peaceful, where I can walk for miles and not see a soul. I used to dream of moving to Montana. That was my 'thing' whenever I was mad or frustrated with something, I would say, "It won't be like this when I move to Montana". I don't know why I chose Montana. I have never been there, I've only seen it in pictures and movies. I never followed through because I didn't think I could do it. I didn't think I could move across the country and start over all on my own.

Well, Virginia isn't Montana, but an hour and thirty minutes from here sure does seem like a world away. I look at the treasure map of my 'dream' home several times a day. It is taped to the wall beside my altar, with a little mini altar in front of it. I light candles everyday to bring me to this home. When I close my eyes, I can see every detail of the house, the yard, the plot.

Standing in the snow on my deck, watching the world turn white, I realized that I can do anything I set my mind to. I realized that it doesn't have to be perfect and it doesn't need to be easy, it just needs to be.

When I found out I could not have children, I gave up all hope of finding a love for myself, a partner. I thought that no one would want to be with a woman who can't have children. I don't know why I felt that way. Maybe it was because I was so bitter about having that integral part of who I was, taken away against my will. Maybe it was because I grew up on old fashioned southern mentality that a woman's place is barefoot and pregnant taking care of her husband. Please don't misunderstand, I don't believe that it is what is best for every woman and that it is the way it should be. I think that each person should choose for themselves how they want to live and what they want to do. Anyway, don't label me as anti-feminist or whatever.

Back to that snowy deck, standing there I realized I don't have to dream of just myself in that big house with all that land. I can add someone to the picture. I can add a partner to my picture, someone to share that peace, that joy. Someone with whom to share my heart.

Dreams can become reality. My dreams will become reality. I can hardly wait!

getting there...

First, let me say thank you to Queen and Draven for their comments on my post yesterday. Don't worry. I'm not suicidal or even homicidal, just really depressed. But the good news is, I'm feeling better today.

I got out of the house today, just a short trip to grocers, but it is progress. I didn't spend all day sleeping either, which is what I've done the past several days. I talked with my supervisor and let them know I needed some more time away from work. I have the rest of this week off and since Monday is a holiday, I don't have to go back until Tuesday. I think I can have myself back together by then, at least enough to be able to work.

This is what I'm looking at today. I love Christmas cacti, although this one turned out to be a new year's cactus. It has three big beautiful blooms on it right now. It is so cheerful.

I've also started a new project. I've decided I don't like one of the colors on my afghan, the color I am currently knitting on (a sort of grayish green) so I've put it up until I can get to the shop to pick another color. For my new project, I'm doing a second pair of socks. I'm going to follow the pattern more closely this time, doing the ribbing all the way down the leg instead of just at the top inch or two. I've chosen a purple colorway for this pair. If you click on the picture you can probably see the color better.

When I went to the store, I noticed this in my yard:

Yes, those are daffodils coming up and yes, it is the middle of January. It has been warm and I guess the bulbs have just been tricked into thinking that it is spring. That is all changing tonight supposedly. We are currently under a winter storm warning. Last I heard we are expecting about two inches of snow before it changes to freezing rain and sleet. I'm hoping for the snow. I am planning on making chili tomorrow since the temperature is going to be in the low 30's. It will be a nice day for chili and to curl up with yarn and needles.

Anyway, I'm feeling better and wishing for snow. Thanks again for the comments and concern.

Not again...

I've been really down lately. I think my bpd is kicking in again. It has been years since it had this big of an impact on me. Now I can barely function. I've have barely left the house in days. I haven't been to work since last Thursday. Problem is, I don't want to go back, ever. I feel so horrible and I don't know how to pull myself out of it. Everyday it gets worse, I sink deeper and deeper. I feel like I am drowning in despair. I don't know why I feel this way.

I don't know why I'm writing this here. I don't seem to know anything anymore.

New Year, New Moon, New Beginnings

New beginnings are important this time of year. Everyone is making resolutions and starting things fresh at the beginning of the calendar year. Today at Blogickal, Angela-Eloise talks about the new moon in Capricorn and what type of new beginnings that signifies. The new moon, in and of itself, is significant of a new beginning.

As Angela-Eloise says, "There are many signs around us that indicate that 2008 will be a tremendous year of positive change. Numerologically, we are entering a new cycle - this is a #1 year (2+0+0+8=10, this reduces to 1). It is a time of potential, of new beginnings and for some, the recognition of what has been missing."

I am very excited about the possibilities for this new year. I am also excited about the opportunity for positive changes. I am very focused on my path and what I need to do to become more at peace with myself and with the world. I am very focused on creating a new beginning for myself. The property/house that I am working toward will be such a change for me that there will be all kinds of things that I will need to learn. It will give me the peace that I need. It will also give me the chance for a new beginning in the job world. I have mentioned before just how miserable I am at my current job. I believe it is time for a new beginning there as well. With that in mind I am searching for a job in the area near the home I want to purchase. (Can you tell I am very determined to get this property?)

A change is in order to my spiritual path as well. I don't know if it is a new beginning or a new determination to embrace my gifts and use them as I should. There is so much I want to do. I'm ready to begin.

During my nap yesterday afternoon, there were two visions that I had. I can't really call them dreams, because I was mostly awake, just resting my eyes. One was of several houses, it was like a slide show of homes that went through my mind's eye. The last home was the one I'm going to buy, but the difference in this one was that I could only see the outline, the focus was on the sun setting behind it. The second 'vision' was of a snow storm, or rather a blizzard. That was it, just snow falling in blizzard proportions. I don't know yet what they mean. I have some more meditating to do on them.

So, I guess this post is about new beginnings. Lots, of new beginnings. Tonight, I found a job in the area of the house. I will be applying for it tomorrow. Two weeks ago, I set a goal that I want to be living in the new house by March 1st. The only thing holding me back is finding employment close to the house. I think the universe is finally listening to me and answering my prayers.

Is it okay to be a little bit scared?

Sunday ramblings...

He came home today. His glucose is up (way up) and he was stable so they sent him home. They lowered his insulin dose and I'm to check in with my regular vet tomorrow. He has been quiet today for the most part. I was looking back through the blog and realized that it has only been about 3 weeks since his last episode. He also had one in November. It seems they are coming a lot more frequently now. Sigh...

I slept about 3 hours last night and took a nap this afternoon for about an hour. I'm wiped out. I'm trying to stay awake through the UNC game. I don't think I'll swim in the morning. I need to get some sleep, it is going to be a busy day at work. I've become increasingly unhappy there. I had made up my mind to not let it get to me and to keep my temper and my thoughts about it to myself when I'm at work. It took 2 and 1/2 days to break that 'resolution'. On Friday I had a run in with a co-worker and I have now decided to seriously look for another job. I am going to look in the area of "the property" or at least no more than 30 minutes from there. All I need is a job within that area that pays equal to what I currently make, and I can buy the property.
So, I'm on a mission. Two missions really, one to find the job and the other to buy that property. Meanwhile, I have to keep my cool at work. I have to stop stressing over the things that I cannot change and just do my job to the best of my abilities. I also need to take time to do things for me. I have not knitted a single stitch since December 22nd. Knitting class starts back on Tuesday so I'll have at least 2 hours a week where I will be knitting. I want to do some other creative things. I want to work on my photography and I have several ideas rolling around in my head for craft projects. I need to make the time!

Well, I have rambled on enough for tonight. I just have to hang on for another 20 minutes or so until the end of the game, then I can go to sleep. zzzzz....

First Saturday Sky of 2008

I spent my day taking down the Yule tree and putting away the holiday decorations. I have left up some of my snow decorations and will leave them until spring. Right now I wish spring was a million miles away. I need snow. I need cold. To me, winter doesn't exist without snow. Maybe in a week or two. This week it is forecast to get into the 70's. How depressing...

In other news, I took the Saturday Sky photo this afternoon while sitting at a stop light. I was on my way to the emergency vet with my dog. He spent over an hour laying completely still. He just would not budge at all. When he finally did get up, he wandered aimlessly around the house for about 30 minutes. He would not sit, he wouldn't be still. I gave him a little food and he continued to act the same. The wandering is usually a sign that a seizure is not far behind. So, off to the vet we went. They took him back and came out a little while later to say that his glucose was too low. They are keeping him at least overnight to monitor and try to get it higher. They will call in the morning and let me know if I can bring him home or if they should continue to keep him. I will have to contact his regular vet on Monday to see what is next.

The house feels different without him here. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to sleep and stay warm tonight. I've had him sleeping beside me for 10 years. He is nice and cuddly and very warm. Hopefully, he will only be gone tonight. I'll have to throw some extra blankets on the bed.

Well, I'm going to do some job hunting online and get ready for the Steelers game at 8. I hope they win.

Brrr...

It is so cold! Today's high was 33 but felt like 21 with the wind chill. I love the cold, how the breathe freezes in your throat. The only thing missing is snow! A friend of my mum's who lives in Maine sent her photos of the snow that they have received. It is so beautiful!

Here it just remains cold...bitterly cold.

New Year's Day I woke to no Internet service. My modem had died a horrible death during the night and it was late yesterday before the cable company could send a service person. What a person they sent! :-) When I opened the door there was the most beautiful man standing there, and when he spoke, I swear I almost swooned! His name is Ian and he is British. I don't know why, but accents from the British Isles just tear me up. Scottish, Irish, English and especially Welsh, I just melt! Unfortunately the hottie cable guy is married. Figures!

It has been a short work week, but a busy one. One of my "wishes" for strength in my job and patience has been going well so far. I think it helps that there is only one more day.

Well, I don't have much else to share tonight.

New Years Wishes

I took this picture on the last full moon. It was the wishing moon. I thought it would be appropriate for this post. I don't usually make new years resolutions, because I find it so depressing when I don't complete them. This year I am making New Year Wishes.

This year I wish for a new home. I wish for THE new home. I wish for organization, I wish for creativity and the time to use it. I wish for strength to accomplish the big goals and the small goals. I wish for friends and I wish for peace. I wish for happiness for myself and everyone.

Here is to one more wish, I wish a Happy New Year to all!

Holidays or Lazy days...

I was so looking forward to having time off during the winter break. I only had to take 3 vacation days from work and would end up with 11 total days away from work. I had so many things I wanted to get done, so many projects. So, what have I done this week, nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I have sat on the sofa and watched movies for days. Every day that I did nothing, I felt what little energy I had was draining away. I've slept very late every day and have napped as well. I have not knitted one single stitch and my house is a regular disaster. I hate this time of year. I always get like this right between Christmas and New Years. I was finally able to get moving a little today. I slept late but had to be at the vet by noon to pick up more medicine for the beastie, so I got up around 9, took a shower and headed out. I stopped for gas, picked up the medication at the vet and then went to the grocery. When I returned home I was able to keep going and cleaned most of the kitchen, cleaned the litter boxes, swept the floors, did several loads of laundry and worked on cleaning up my bedroom. It had become the storage room when I cleaned out the computer room and hall. I made a little headway, but there is still a way to go. I hope to have the energy to work on it tomorrow.

I'm already dreading going back to work. I don't have to return until Wednesday, but there is some work I have to do remotely before then. I am determined to go back with a better attitude and to keep my mouth shut about things. There is so much there that bothers me, but there is really nothing I can do about it and I can't afford to get fired, so, zip it! :-)

I've been thinking more and more about "the property". I still have my treasure map of it and have a candle that burns for it every day. I've also been working with Saint Expedite to bring it to me quickly. I still love that place and want to live there. But sometimes, I feel that I should just make the best of things here. Maybe I should put up my fence to block out the neighbors and just work as best I can here. I don't know any more. The thought of all that peace and quiet, of all the land that would be mine. It just makes me smile and makes me feel at ease. I'm so tense here all the time. But am I making myself tense?

Oh well, enough of my rambles. I'm going to finish watching Baby Boom (a top five favorite of mine) and then who knows... maybe I'll work on the afghan, or start my second pair of socks.

Gifts and Anniversaries

Well, I'd say I kind of racked it up this year in the gift department. I received one of these for Christmas. It is pretty cool. I've been playing with it and have just finished downloading all the music on my laptop to it. Let's see, what else did I get...

The Bourne Ultimatum DVD
Supernatural Season 1 DVD
Charmed the Final Season DVD
NCIS Season 4 DVD
Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong cd
Daughtry's cd
an LL Bean barn coat in blue
a pair of shoes
Euphoria perfume gift set
several pairs of travel socks
Naturewood pattern Butter Dish and Square Baking dish
a gift certificate for a mani/pedi
the Oceans' DVD 3 pack
a gift certificate to Amazon.com
a gift certificate to a local shopping center
a Steelers tree skirt
and a lot of cash

Wow, that is a lot of stuff. :-)

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend and that Santa brought you everything you wanted!

Semi good news in the doggie department. No cancer in the spleen, but there is some sort of infection in the small intestine that seems to be causing a lot of weight loss. I have to take him in tomorrow in order to get his weight checked and also an exam. They are saying that if he doesn't start to gain weight within a few weeks, they may want to do an endoscopy. I have no idea what that is, but it doesn't sound good.

Anyway, I have another week vacation and I'm hoping to be able to stay home and enjoy it. I have a few projects that I want to work on at the house and I'm going to try to start on them tomorrow after I have returned from the vet.

Well, I'm off to catch up on my blog reading and watch some movies.

Doggie post

Meet Dylan, my four-legged baby, otherwise known as The Beast. He has been talked about here before and there have been pictures of him here and here too. He is a black Labrador Retriever and turned 10 years old this past November. He is one of the sweetest dogs you could ever meet. He is a big dog and has a big bark which has not helped the myriad of migraines that I seem to be afflicted with on a semi-regular basis.

When Dylan was six, he was diagnosed with Diabetes. For the past four years I have scheduled my life around his insulin shots. He can only eat special dog food designed for diabetics and he gets two shots a day, 12 hours apart. When he was first diagnosed he was a nice big lab and weighed in at around 110 pounds. Now he is down to around 84 pounds.

After the second year of changing the amount of insulin every couple of weeks I asked the doctors if they could look to see if there was something else wrong with him that could be causing more problems. They said his behavior was normal for diabetics. I felt they were wrong.

Over the past several months, his insulin requirements have jumped dramatically and he has been having more of his “spells”. He has seizures and episodes where he is very wobbly and can’t walk up and down stairs or get up and down from the bed. A few weeks ago I rushed him to the emergency vet at midnight on a Friday night because his eyes looked as if they had sunken into his head. They diagnosed him with something called Horner’s Syndrome, which is a dying of the nerve endings around the eyes and causes the lids to droop.

Last Tuesday, I happened to be home during the day due to a migraine, when he had another episode. I took him to the vet and the new doctor there did some tests that came back relatively normal for a diabetic dog. However, she was very concerned about his constant episodes and wanted to do more testing. Today he went in for an ultrasound of the abdomen and also to have his ears checked. She was planning to lightly sedate him so that she could get a look down deep into his ears, the middle ear, I think.

She called a few minutes ago and said that the ears looked good, except for being dirty (they were just cleaned last week) and a slight infection. The ultrasound showed an abnormal nodule on his spleen. They aspirated it and are going to do a cytology (sp?) on it to see if it is a regenerative tumor or something else. She said that with the regenerative kind, there are normally more than one at a time. She is also concerned that he has a pancreas problem. She said there is a lot of muscle wasting around his head and also in his legs and that the pancreas problem could be causing that because his body is probably not getting enough nutrients from his food to help him and he is literally starving to death.

I’m very concerned about him. I have already lost Jade and my Grandmother and an uncle this year, not to mention my dad’s 16 year old lab. I don’t know if I can take another loss right now. I may be jumping the gun, but I just don’t have a good feeling about this.

As with Jade, I don’t want Dylan to be in pain. He always looks like so sad, but I don’t know if that is the Horner’s Syndrome or if he is in pain. My mum said yesterday that I need to think about how far I’m willing to go to diagnose his issues and treat them. I spend about $250 per month on food and insulin for him. That does not include all the vet trips and tests they have to run to monitor his condition. I know today’s bill is going to be a huge. I will be surprised to get out of there for less than $500.

Well, I just felt like talking about my dog today. Hopefully, these latest tests will reveal the problem and a suitable treatment will be found.

Blessings,

Finally feels like December...

It finally feels like December here. For the past week or more it has been the high 70's and today the high was 38. It is currently pouring rain and 35 degrees. I wish the temperature would drop just a few more degrees so we could have sleet or snow. I love winter. I love the cold and would love to have snow and cold for most of the year. I do need some spring and summer so I can grow my herbs and vegetables. But I really love the cold.

I baked cookies today. I cheated and used a toll house mix that I got at Costco, but it was fun and the house now smells like pine trees and chocolate chip cookies. I'm planning to take them to work to share this week. Tomorrow I'm making chocolate dipped pretzels and peanut butter crackers that will also go to work.

I'm currently watching The Notebook (I'm so gonna cry) and am getting ready to edit some pictures to go in a photo album I'm giving as a holiday present. I need to get them edited tonight so I can get them printed. The photo paper that I'm printing on says they need to sit for 7 days before being put in a frame or album, so I'd best get busy because I have to have it wrapped and ready to give on the 24th.

I'm almost finished with my sock. I had to go back to my teacher and get her to help me fix a big hole I'd made and couldn't figure out. Maybe tomorrow night I can work on my sock.

Well, I'm off to edit photos.

Enough with the migraines...

I can't take it any more. I think my head is going to explode! Since my last post I have not been able to get rid of the migraine that started on Monday of this week. I ended up staying home on Tuesday and Wednesday although both days I had to take the beast to the vet. I went back to work on Thursday and am at work now. I really don't want to be here, but I don't have a choice. I just keep reminding myself that when I leave work next Friday I will have 11 total days off. :-)

I should hear back from the vet today about the beast's test results. The results came in yesterday but the doctor was off and no one there could tell me what they found. On Wednesday, they had me bring him back for second urine catch. It seems that the concentration levels are way too low. I'm not exactly sure what that means. She wanted to redo the test to make sure there wasn't an error in the testing and then we would talk about what it means and the options. I will say it didn't sound good.

Last night I was in bed at 7 and stayed there until 5:40 this morning. I wish I could say I slept all the way through, but I didn't. :-(

Well, I'd best get to work. Have a great day.

Migraines... and surprises

It is one of those days again. When I left work yesterday I could feel a migraine starting to build. This morning it was full on pain. I decided to stay home from work and rest, but The Beast had other ideas. About 30 minutes after he was fed, he started going into seizure mode and I had to run him to the vet. It took about two hours before I could get back home. They ran tests on him and I should get the results tomorrow.

I've not been able to lay down and rest so the migraine is still raging. I don't know what I'm going to do about it. I have to go to work tomorrow. Since I couldn't rest I've done a little work on my computer/craft room. I hung a strand of lights that took me almost an hour and I tested them first but when I finally finished hanging them and plugged them in, half didn't work. Ugh...

I refuse to take them down now so I have to figure out how to fix them. Not tonight... maybe tomorrow night. :-(

On the surprise front, on Sunday I ran into a person that used to be one of my best friends. This is the person that I went to New Orleans with. Sunday was just Hi and Hi. I couldn't talk to her and didn't know what to say. Yesterday I get two emails from her within an hour. The gist of the emails were that she might like to talk and that seeing me made her realize how long it has been since we spoke. I just didn't know what to say. I waited until today and then wrote back. I don't know if I've done the right thing or not. I basically said that I was also surprised to see her and that maybe we could talk sometime. I don't know if this was the right thing to do or not. I haven't heard back from her, but in all honesty I don't expect to.

Well, I'd better go. It is almost time to feed the kids. Maybe I should see about finding me something too.

send in the clones...

Are you kidding me?

I don't know who these people are, but can we please have the REAL Pittsburgh Steelers back in the game?

Ugh...

new theme

I really wanted a wintry theme for my blog, but I can't find one that I like that I can make work. So, I went through Blogger's options and chose this one. I needed something light. The dark background was beginning to depress me.

I'm watching the Steelers vs Patriots game now. It is currently halftime. I know... thrilling right, you are just so glad you know this about me. :-)

Not much knitting has been going on around here lately. Mostly just sleeping, wrapping presents and well, more sleeping. Today the temperature reached over 70 degrees. It sucks! 70 in December? There is something just so wrong about that. I think this week will be warm and it will get cold again next Sunday. I really hope so. I need cold and snow!

I thought I'd spend some time surfing. I may try to figure out this whole template thing and get one that I really like. We'll see...

Go Steelers!

Quick news flash...

This morning when I got out of the shower... it was S.N.O.W.I.N.G! Snowing! Just light tiny flakes, but it was SNOW!

knitting pictures

I have finally had time to sit down and copy my pictures from my camera to my PC. Now I can show you pictures of my sock! I'm still working on the mate. I have to go get help tomorrow as I've forgotten what I'm supposed to do at this point and can't make sense of the directions.

I really enjoy knitting the socks and I've already bought yarn for two more pairs. :-)

Thanksgiving was very different this year. We had our family celebration on Saturday. I was able to spend a lot of time with my little cousins. They are so adorable and they are growing up so fast!

My house is all decorated for Yule with only one thing missing...the tree. I'm planning to get it on Thursday after work. Almost all of my gifts have been purchased already so I just have to wrap and get a couple of little things. I've been looking through so many magazines and blogs that have crafting as a topic and I have so many ideas in my head. I was given some of my grandmothers jewelry that I think could be turned into some neat projects.

I need to find time to work out all these ideas. Maybe if any of them turn out, I'll post them here and see what you think.

I'm going to take off now. I started back swimming yesterday morning and need to get my stuff ready for in the morning. I have a killer headache right now and want to get ready to go to bed.

I'm still here...

Really, I am. I just haven't had time to post. I finished the first sock and have started the other one. I really like the sock knitting! I have pictures, just not with me right now, but I promise to post them soon.

I'm so glad that work is almost to a break. I just can't stand it right now and really want to change careers. I'm going to have to do a lot more thinking on that.

Anyway, I'm around and have been reading blogs just not posting. I promise to come out of Gilmore land at some point and put up a real post with pictures and everything. (Season 7 of Gilmore Girls arrived in my mailbox this past Friday and I've spent a good deal of time watching it since I never saw it when it originally aired.)

CopperBoom!
