how do you know...

how do you know if that voice in your head is doubt or intuition...or something else? how do you know whether you are making the right decision? how do you know?

really... i'm asking... how do you know? when you are trying to make changes in your life, taking on a new project or just to answer the simple question of 'these are my options, which should i choose'...how do you know? the fear is always there, isn't it? but how do you know if fear of failure is really what is telling you not to take a certain path...couldn't it be intuition? if over and over you hear the whispers telling you it won't work, don't do it, is that intuition...or doubt? how do you know?

i really need some help here...please... how do YOU tell the difference?

blessings,
~*~

Hello! My name is Meia...I have been lurking for a few months, I guess! I love reading about pagan spirituality, and I found your blog by googling. :)

I want to tell you what my therapist told me when I asked her these same questions. Basically that sometimes our intuition is inexperienced in a certain area, and all you can do in that case is to just try. I have been so afraid of making the wrong decision about something, but I have to learn that if I make the "wrong" decision, I'm not really making a mistake, I'm just trying different things until I find out what works. And that it's OK to keep trying again and again; it doesn't mean failure, even if the consequences are undesireable. It's a process of discovering the best life for you, and that is a wonderful thing to explore, even when it's completely unmarked territory.

So your intuition may not know the best thing to do in areas where you don't have a lot of experience, but you can inform it as best you can, and learn to accept the feeling of not knowing for sure.

I hope that helps a little. D:

To introduce myself, I've included my journal address, but the website has been down for a couple of days. X)

I just suck it up and take a leap of faith. I guess that's the best I can describe it. :-)

how do i know - usually, I have a sense of peace, relief, just a quietness that I feel and assures me the decision is right...

And, then other times I just don't know - but take the leap! My thought usually is - what's the worst that can happen!!

Does any of that help...I hope it does...

I'm struggling with something right now actually and it seems like I'm being pulled in all different directions. Usually when this happens, things will pop up in life that sometimes whisper the direction to go and sometimes shout but something ALWAYS comes up that shows me the way. Maybe that will happen for you? I would say that 9 times out of 10, the little nagging voice you hear is fear but if you feel the nagging in your gut, it's usually a sign that you need to get away from that situation/decision. Good luck!

all true "knowing" is felt in the body somewhere. we are completely integrated beings - we simply dont understand how. consequently, when we have intuitive knowings, our bodies FEEL it, as well. do you know the expression to know something "in your bones?" some people feel a tingling in some part of their bodies - the hands or the neck, for example. some people feel a sensation in their solar plexus or in their heart area. many years ago when i was just starting on my journey, i went to an intuitive counselor who told me to think of the last correct intuition i had. she asked to think about where i felt in my body. i "knew" immediately that i could feel it in my solar plexus. then i thoght about all the other intiuitve hits ivehad over the years,a nd realzied i could feel them inthe SAME place. that's your signal, she said. when you're doubt check in with where you feel it. if it doesn't FEEL like it's coming from your solar plexus, then realize it may not true. but if it is.. trust. i have no doubt you too have such a place inyour body where you expereince the intuitions. see if you can locate it by remembering times you had intuitions that were correct.

and meia... your therapist is wrong. that's not your intuition... intuition is NEVER wrong.

I am sort of dealing with that right now. We moved from our great paying jobs to move to a place that we love. We had high hopes of everything just falling into place and I actually felt the peace that came with these thoughts. Nothing has fallen into place and we have struggled since we moved up here. (as can be read on my blog) We even thought about moving to a city to actually have an easier time finding employment. The thing that has kept us from doing that is our pro's totally outway our cons. Granted, we may be without jobs, not knowing how we are going to pay rent or anything, but we are so spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically at ease here. We may have had alot of money in the other place that we lived, but we were so unhappy. Try a simply and rationaly pro vrs con list. It might help to either hush or prioritize the thoughts in your head.

"and meia... your therapist is wrong. that's not your intuition... intuition is NEVER wrong." said Annie.

I'm disturbed that my comment came across that way. I was trying to say the opposite. :/ Intuition is always right.

Oddly enough I just got finished writing about something along these lines. At least on a spiritual level, I've learned to go the direction in which I'm being pulled. I believe strongly in fate, and believe that where ever I'm at is where I'm meant to be, for whatever reason (usually the 'reason' is for me to learn once I'm there).

For more mundane decisions, I go with my conscience. If something tells me an action is wrong, I either don't take that action, or do so knowing that I will likely face consequences for it. I play devil's advocate with myself, when I have that nagging voice that I'm not sure I do or want to believe - I let the voice be heard, and look at things from that perspective. If it's a reasonable doubt, then it has to be taken into consideration.

I hope this helps :)

Hello, i'm Claire. I'll say one thing on this subject: How many times in your life have you said, "I knew i should have done that." Have faith in yourself, and if it turns out to be the wrong path, try your hardest to make the best out of a bad situation and learn from it. Feed your intuition. What else can you do honey? Best of luck with every thing and i must say i do like your blog, i will become a regular visitor! All the best!
